Floyd Mayweather once enjoyed great financial success as one of the highest-paying athletes, yet has recently found himself experiencing significant financial difficulty. Matters worsened significantly this year when reports surfaced of him planning on filing a $175 Million lawsuit against his former manager.
UFC President Dana White recently signaled his willingness to support Floyd Mayweather amid ongoing legal difficulties, acknowledging its complexity during a press conference wherein White noted having talked with Mayweather but having few of its details available to him.
“That’s a tough one,” White said. “I have talked to him about it. But I don’t know enough about it. I hear all these different stories. I think you have to wait to see how the story is gonna play out on court for him.”
He continued, “But when somebody works as hard as he did, amasses the type of wealth that he has, and then they lose it, or whatever the deal is, it’s horrible, and it happens a lot in professional sports. So, who knows? Anything is possible. Maybe we could do something to figure it out for him.”
Although White did not specify what kind of assistance he might provide, their longstanding relationship suggests he may step in to help Mayweather during this challenging time.
Mayweather and White have maintained contact since their collaboration on the high-profile crossover event with Conor McGregor in 2017. Their continued discussions about potential future projects demonstrate a positive connection between the two. However, the current lawsuit presents a new and complicated obstacle.
The lawsuit alleges that Mayweather’s former financial manager committed fraud involving millions of dollars. According to the claims, approximately $100 million worth of jewelry was transferred for significantly less than its value. Additionally, the lawsuit accuses the manager of taking funds under the pretense of investments that never came to fruition.
Mayweather also asserts that he unknowingly signed documents transferring ownership of his private Gulfstream jet without full understanding, as the relevant section was left blank.
Previous Legal Issues and Additional Lawsuits
This latest suit is not the only legal battle Mayweather is currently facing. He has also sued Showtime for over $340 million, alleging hidden accounts, unauthorized transactions, and concealment of financial records that have caused substantial losses. At that time, Dana White voiced his support for Mayweather and criticized former executives at Showtime.
Furthermore, Mayweather is dealing with another lawsuit filed by a couple claiming unpaid rent totaling more than $330,000.
These mounting legal challenges indicate serious financial strain for the boxing legend. Yet, despite the difficulties, Mayweather continues to receive support from peers and the sports community.
Fernando Vargas Responds to Mayweather’s Situation
Former two-time light middleweight champion Fernando Vargas publicly expressed sympathy for Mayweather amid reports of fraud by his former manager. Vargas shared his own experience with mismanagement, recalling how his business manager forged signatures and diverted funds during his career.
“My message to Floyd, man, I love you,” Vargas said. “You’re a good dude. It happened to me. I had my piece of s—t business manager forging my signature. The checks were going back to the office, and not to my house. So all the cash and checks were going to the office and not to my house. I almost threw up millions of dollars. What are you gonna say? You think people are gonna look after you? They are not looking after you.”
Vargas gained this knowledge due to legal proceedings regarding his former manager who was charged with forgery and sentenced to prison for it.
While Mayweather has received significant assistance during this trying time, legal disputes he faces may take an enormous toll both mentally and financially.
