Jack Catterall from Britain made another step closer to realising his world championship dream when he defeated Regis Prograis at Manchester’s Co-op Live Arena, scoring an emphatic 12 round victory that witnessed three knockdowns (one by Prograis in round five and two by Catterall in round nine)! Prograis took one, before Catterall secured two more within one round – which will hopefully put Catterall closer than ever towards fulfilling that ambition!
Catterall defeated Prograis via unanimous decisions scored at 116-109, 116-109 and 117-108 from three judges – his four consecutive win since Josh Taylor defeated him back in February 2022 was marked by four successive unanimous decision victories for him; on the contrary, Prograis suffered his second straight loss, following Devin Haney in February.
The 31-year-old British boxer didn’t waste time in calling out his next potential opponents publicly, setting his sights on IBF super lightweight champion Liam Paro amongst others. Paro, the 28-year-old Australian left-hander, recently secured an upset victory over Subriel Matias and is scheduled to defend his title against Richardson Hitchins in December.
Catterall then took to expressing his readiness to face former WBC super lightweight champion Devin Haney, who had recently commented on Prograis’ performance in the fight. Additionally, Catterall made his ambitions clear with a callout to Teofimo Lopez, signaling his eagerness to take on ‘The Takeover’, who hasn’t been active since his last fight earlier in the year and is currently embroiled in promotional disputes.
Eddie Hearn Echoes Catterall’s Ambitions
Eddie Hearn, Matchroom head, has expressed great praise for Catterall as “the most underrated fighter in the world”. Hearn also acknowledged his incredible run over 11 months while signaling an interest in scheduling an encounter between Teofimo Lopez and Catterall for Manchester; also keen on having another fight set up between Liam Paro versus Richardson Hitchins winner as opponent for Catterall.
With his win against Regis Prograis, Jack Catterall has taken one giant leap closer towards becoming an elite world championship boxer. Who he faces next remains to be determined as boxing fans await what lies in store for Catterall in terms of career progression.
