Jake Paul Laughs Off Olivia Rodrigo’s SNL Joke About His Boxing Career

boxing news

Jake Paul has long been subjected to mockery within the combat sports community. From criticisms regarding facing retired MMA fighters and controversial decisions like bringing Mike Tyson back into public view; to ongoing arguments regarding the legitimacy of his boxing career; Paul has endured it all.

So when former Disney co-star Olivia Rodrigo took an amusing jab at him during her monologue on Saturday Night Live, Paul surprised many by responding with laughter. Both had worked on Bizaardvark together so Rodrigo used this connection as fodder for some laughter-inducing humor.

Rodrigo shared that while she aimed to create music exploring the complexities of growing up, Jake had simpler ambitions.

“We’d always talk about our futures, me and Jake,” she said. “I’d say, ‘I really want to create music that explores the complexities of girls my age.’ And he’d say, ‘Well, one day I really want to beat up old guys on Netflix.’ And we both did it. Hurray.”

The joke highlighted Jake Paul’s unconventional path from YouTuber to one of boxing’s most talked-about figures. Yet instead of taking offense, Jake embraced the humor.

He responded on social media, saying, “We had the vision ????. I told you that you would sell stadiums out, and then we both did ???? proud of you fr.”

Even when reminded by fans that he was the target of the joke, Paul accepted it in stride.

“I got that she was making a joke at my expense,” he wrote in reply. “So what? She’s on SNL, and that’s what they are supposed to do. Doesn’t change my admiration of her and her success.”

This reaction reveals where Jake Paul stands today. He is fully aware of the skepticism around his boxing record but remains confident in his continued relevance. Beyond the spotlight of headline-grabbing fights—and following his recent loss to Anthony Joshua—Paul is quietly building a larger presence in combat sports.

Now a promoter with Most Valuable Promotions, he is involved in major events such as Ronda Rousey’s return fight against Gina Carano.

Additionally, if he returns to active fighting, he has allies in the sport who see him as a legitimate competitor. Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, for example, refuses to view Jake Paul as an easy opponent.

Francis Ngannou Won’t Underestimate Jake Paul in a Potential Matchup

Despite the ongoing jokes surrounding Jake Paul, attitudes are shifting somewhat in the combat sports community. Real fighters have started to recognize him as a serious challenge, which may come as a surprise given the debates about his boxing credentials.

Ngannou has spoken candidly about not underestimating Paul, warning against taking any fight lightly.

“I never take a fight as an easy fight,” he said. “Don’t make that mistake. And you also have to understand that he has faith and he believes in himself.”

Ngannou pointed out that many have counted Jake out before, only to be proven wrong.

“The Predator,” Ngannou recognizes how confidence can influence fighters, with Jake Paul having shown no lack of it himself. Their mutual appreciation makes their potential future fight an intriguing possibility as both have suffered heartbreaking defeats at Anthony Joshua’s hands, yet still managed to achieve significant successes beyond traditional boxing audiences and boast strong fan followings beyond conventional audiences.

While Jake Paul has publicly criticised Ngannou’s technical boxing skills, Ngannou remains respectful towards Paul in response, refusing to underestimate their opponent and providing real challenge should the two face off. Should Paul decide to fight Ngannou instead of just criticizing his fights without real danger then we might finally witness some credible challenges emerging that disprove Paul’s criticism that his fights lack genuine danger.
