Last Saturday was an evening of broken illusions for Gervonta Davis, an undefeated boxer until then who faced his first setback against Lamont Roach Jr. A highly anticipated plan also crumbled post-fight; Davis had hinted at making an important call-out had the bout gone his way, yet Roach proved formidable, drawing it out and upending Davis’ plans for future fights with YouTube celebrity and boxer Jake Paul despite their weight difference.
While Paul remains possible as an opponent for Davis to fight, after facing criticism within the boxing community KSI seems eager to step in as one potential next opponent for Davis in the ring.
In a recent interview with Fight Hub TV, KSI shared his skepticism about a Jake Paul vs. Gervonta Davis fight happening, given the history and dynamics between various parties involved. KSI also took the opportunity to express his frustration with Paul, accusing him of avoiding a fight with him for years and opting instead for opponents where he perceives a significant advantage.
KSI is set to fight Dillon Danis, someone Jake Paul’s brother, Logan Paul, defeated in 2023. Meanwhile, Canelo Alvarez has signed a four-fight deal that does not include a bout with Jake Paul, choosing instead to face William Scull and Terence Crawford.
Gervonta Davis has expressed interest in other potential opponents besides Jake Paul; Top Rank inquired with them regarding a fight with Vasyl Lomachenko sometime later this year – however Lomachenko may retire before then so plans remain uncertain for such an encounter.
As boxing fans speculate over Davis’ next steps, one thing is clear: KSI could not be happier that Gervonta Davis decided against fighting Jake Paul for what may have been their potential matchup. All eyes now turn toward whom Jake Paul may choose as his opponent in what promises to continue unsettle the boxing world.
