UK Boxer Conor Benn Challenges Gervonta Davis with Sharp Words

boxing news

Conor Benn has engaged in heated online debate with WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis over an extended period. Eddie Hearn proposed a fight proposal between Benn and Davis; unfortunately it was rejected by Baltimore native Davis; nevertheless Conor Benn remains eager for an opportunity against Davis, known by fans as ‘The Destroyer”.

Benn, however, found himself without his British boxing license after failing two drug tests prior to facing Chris Eubank Jr. It eventually led the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) revoking it – however this suspension was lifted last month, placing Benn back into contention in the ring.

The National Anti-Doping Panel declared it was not fully convinced that UKAD and the BBBofC had proven Benn committed an anti-doping rule violation. With his license reinstated, Benn is ready to return to the sport. In a recent talk with Fight Hub TV, Benn did not mince words about Davis, describing their ongoing feud with some choice insults.

Benn even claimed that after sending Davis an offer to fight, Davis’ promoter Al Haymon barred Davis from accepting the challenge. Benn proposed a catchweight of 143 pounds for the fight, though he believes Davis will not agree to it.

While Benn is increasingly frustrated with the lack of progress towards a fight with Davis, he also expressed fatigue over his other rivals.

Benn Shifts Focus to New Champion Mario Barrios

Benn was present for Chris Eubank Jr’s fight against Kamil Szeremeta in Saudi Arabia earlier in 2019. Following their bout, he attempted to reignite discussion of an anticipated bout between them – ultimately without success – before shifting focus onto Mario Barrios (current interim WBC welterweight champion who recently earned a draw against Abel Ramos) with whom his attention has now turned. Benn emphasized his team’s intent of making their fight happen whilst rejecting further negotiations between Eubank Jr vs Barrios while disinterest in further negotiations between them both parties.

At this stage, an unlikely fight between Gervonta Davis and Conor Benn is unlikely. Davis continues his preparations for his March 1st fight with Lamont Roach while Benn has left boxing fans eagerly awaiting his next moves.
