On January 5th, the Bears managed a stunning 24-22 win against the Packers to end a 10-game losing streak and inspire celebration among their fans. Now with season over for teams not making playoffs such as themselves and with Ryan Poles taking charge of rebuilding efforts including coaching candidates Ben Johnson, Mike Vrabel, Pete Carroll or even former Cowboys Head Coach Mike McCarthy who have all been considered. But even including McCarthy has caused great discussion both among fans and media alike.
Although Jerry Jones has yet to decide, the Bears have reached out for an interview with McCarthy as soon as his contract concludes in 2018. This move comes following coaching challenges experienced this offseason: leaving Matt Eberflus and Thomas Brown behind as coaches while only managing one victory since becoming head coach. Ryan Poles evidently sees potential in McCarthy, having led Packers teams to eight playoff appearances but no Super Bowl titles during his time leading them whereas with Cowboys teams there has only ever been four playoff appearances and no victories during McCarthy’s time with them: four playoff appearances but no Super Bowl wins during that same 12-season period of coaching!
Fans Reject the Idea of Mike McCarthy as Head Coach
The Bears fanbase has expressed displeasure at McCarthy joining their team, posting numerous expressions of dissatisfaction and rejection online and via social media platforms such as Twitter or Facebook. Some fans have called for candidates such as Ben Johnson or Todd Monken instead – Brian Flores, Todd Monken or Arthur Smith may all be interviewed as potential head coaching candidates by Chicago for consideration as head coaches in addition to McCarthy.
Bears fans remain deeply invested in their team’s future direction and this decision could set the course for years of playoff contention and success for years to come. As their fortunes remain dismal despite missing playoff contention for four consecutive seasons, pressure is on to make an appointment which revitalizes franchise.
