Over the last several seasons, Philadelphia Eagles center Cam Jurgens and quarterback Jalen Hurts have forged an unbreakable bond on the field that culminated with their Super Bowl win together. Yet not every snap during training camp feels comfortable for Hurts according to Jurgens’ disclosures.
“During fall camp, I am absolutely drenched with sweat; I can easily lose 10 to 15 pounds just from perspiration alone. Certain plays that should take place under center will often get changed up with Jalen saying we are going gun instead,” according to Jurgens in an interview.
Jurgens acknowledged that sweating heavily during fall camp can make snapping under center uncomfortable for Hurts. To help ease this issue, he takes practical steps such as using baby powder, bringing a big towel, and changing pants regularly to reduce the discomfort caused by excessive moisture.
Hurts has been with the Eagles since 2020, while Jurgens joined in 2022. Hurts became the team’s starting quarterback in 2021 and has been a consistent starter since 2023, especially after the retirement of longtime center Jason Kelce. Together, they have spent several seasons playing countless snaps, developing significant on-field synergy.
The duo’s strong partnership is evident in their performances. Hurts recorded some of his best passing yard seasons while working alongside Jurgens, and together they contributed to winning a Super Bowl and earning Pro Bowl honors. Their collaboration continues to be a key factor in the Eagles’ offensive success.
Cam Jurgens Opens Up About His Lingering Back Injury
Despite his strong play, Jurgens has faced challenges with a persistent back injury. During the 2024 season, he played through significant pain caused by a broken disc that affected his sciatic nerve, making movement difficult. He described it as suffocating his leg and called it the worst month of his life, though it was also the best because of the team’s championship win.
Jurgens managed his pain through postseason play with epidural injections and contributed to their Super Bowl run. Subsequently in February 2025 he underwent back surgery; though most games in subsequent seasons impacted his performance.
Jurgens has sought relief through stem cell treatment in Colombia in order to address his ongoing back injury, with plans of returning as fully fit as possible for his fifth NFL season with the Eagles.
