Parenthood can be both rewarding and demanding – often including sleepless nights, sacrifices and pressure. Pilar Sanders, ex-wife of Deion Sanders, feels her sons may not yet be ready to face these trials of parenthood. After quarterback Shedeur Sanders joked online about wanting children, Shilo decided to seek her mother’s opinion, leading Shilo Sanders to seek some honest guidance from her mother – leading Shilo Sanders into seeking an opinion from Pilar and getting some candid guidance about motherhood from Deion’s ex-wife Pilar Sanders was given advice regarding raising sons’ futures paths of their respective parents’ mothers opinions which yielded some honest advice that was given from an experienced mother: advice that came directly from mother.
Pilar told Shilo as they sampled Venezuelan cuisine that she thought they were too young right then, noting they were 24 to 26 years old at this stage. “Twenty four to 26 is too young; these young adults should enjoy life a bit more; in my view this should mean single level living without children, luggage or stress!”
Both Shedeur and Shilo are in their mid-20s, with many opportunities and directions ahead of them. Shedeur is currently vying for the starting quarterback position, facing competition from Deshaun Watson. He has yet to fully prove himself in the league as he looks toward a pivotal 2026. Meanwhile, Shilo is focusing on a media career after being released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last year.
The conversation inspired Shilo to ask Pilar about how old she was when she had him. She explained that her situation was different. “I was, well, 26,” Pilar shared. “The difference is, I was done with the stuff I wanted to do. I was modeling, acting, living on my own for a long time, and I’d already been to college. But having a family was something I wanted for a really long time. My whole life, I just wanted a big family. That was my thing. I wanted children. You never grew up talking about, ‘Mommy, I want a big family. I want to have children.’”
Deion Sanders recently put his sons, Shedeur and Shilo, “on the clock” following their online antics regarding having children. After discussing it in comments section of a photo with Deion, Shedeur and Shilo brought this topic up in their remarks – to which their father responded “we’re waiting”.
Now, the Sanders brothers will remain uncles; when it is their time, when it is their turn to start families of their own, life experience will help guide their parenthood journey. But for now, Pilar’s message to her nephews remains clear – to focus on building individual legacies while taking advantage of being young adults; parenthood challenges should wait their turn later on in life.
