Ferrari Faces Uncertainty Ahead of the F1 2025 Season

formula 1 news

As Ferrari prepares for another Formula 1 season, pressure on them and Lewis Hamilton only increases with each passing race. Both Hamilton’s performance and that of their SF-25 will be closely evaluated from day one in Bahrain.

Ferrari were optimistic of their chances this season following their impressive surge last season; however, pre-season testing in Bahrain demonstrated several obstacles they’ll need to address in 2025. On the contrary, McLaren resumed strong form from 2024 by showing impressive pace and stability from their MCL39 whilst experiencing minimal tyre degradation.

Doubts Surface Around the SF-25

Ferrari’s test sessions did not go as smoothly as hoped. While the SF-25 showed competitiveness and no unexpected behaviors, concerns regarding setup and optimization have surfaced. The team is racing against time to find the SF-25’s ideal operating conditions to harness its full potential.

Team Principal Fred Vasseur, who took over in 2023, is no stranger to leading the team through challenging times. Although cautious optimism remains, the true competitive hierarchy will only reveal itself during qualifying in Melbourne.

The SF-25’s ability to perform under varying conditions remains a question mark. Previous seasons have shown teams like Mercedes and Red Bull struggle with cars that have a narrow performance window. Ferrari is keen to avoid a similar fate.

Ferrari’s Strategy Looking Forward

Ferrari has consistently displayed their capacity for making significant adjustments mid-season, evidenced by their recovery following disappointing updates at last year’s Spanish Grand Prix. Yet as attention shifts toward regulation changes coming into effect in 2026, they face the delicate balance of developing their current SF-25 while simultaneously planning for what lies ahead.

Ferrari knows if they start their season off behind, the challenge of catching up will not only be critical but more complex due to competition demands and future preparation. Their initial performances will set their approach for the remainder of their season.
