Jean-Eric Vergne: Formula E’s Distinct Double Champion

formula 1 news

Jean-Eric Vergne stands out as an extraordinary two-time Formula E champion and was undoubtedly an integral figure during its inaugural seasons – winning in Seasons 4 and 5. These accomplishments cement Vergne as one of the legendary figures of electric racing!

A Glimpse into Vergne’s Racing Career

Vergne began karting at just four years old in France, leading him onto single seater racing by 2007. That year saw his entry into French Formula Renault where he made waves right from his debut year by winning both races and ultimately taking home the championship crown – an astounding performance which landed him an invite into Red Bull Junior Team and eventually British Formula 3. Over his three year run there he secured both races and Driver’s titles well ahead of schedule, before moving up into Formula 4.

From F1 Challenges to FE Triumphs

Vergne transitioned to Formula 1 in 2012 as a Toro Rosso driver, partnering first with Daniel Ricciardo and later with Daniil Kvyat. Despite a series of competitive seasons, his tenure in F1 concluded with the arrival of Max Verstappen. Vergne then made a pivotal switch to Formula E, initially signing with Andretti for Season 1 and quickly making his mark by achieving podium finishes.

His journey began at Andretti Racing before transitioning to DS Virgin Racing and ultimately Techeetah Racing where he truly thrived. Vergne’s impressive performances throughout Season 4, highlighted by multiple wins including at Paris E-Prix, led him to claim his inaugural Formula E championship title; repeating it again during Season 5 led him to secure two consecutive titles – something no other driver in this series could achieve!

The Journey Continues

Vergne was still one of the premier competitors during subsequent seasons with DS Techeetah (later DS Penske). Though their fortunes fluctuated from season to season, Vergne remained an effective opponent – his resilience and skill kept him competitive for titles and podium finishes (including an iconic win at Hyderabad E-Prix in Season 9! ) In Season 11, his legacy as Formula E’s only double champion had already been cemented; signifying both exceptional accomplishment and pioneering spirit during an incredible career that never faltered!
