Final Addition to VAR’s F2 Team for 2025 Announced
With Australia set to kickoff their season soon, Van Amersfoort Racing have finalized their team, by signing Rafael Villagomez as their final Formula 2 driver. Villagomez returns after experiencing success his previous stint. This marks his second stint on the grid – hopefully taking full advantage of any previous learnings gained during his debut campaign in 2009.
Early Career Highlights of Villagómez
Starting his career in motorsport in the 2020 F4 British Championship with Fortec Motorsport, Villagómez showcased his talent early on with a podium finish in his debut race at Donington Park. He moved up to the Formula 3 Championship the following year with HWA Racelab, marking his entry as the first Mexican in the series despite a challenging season without points. His partnership with Van Amersfoort Racing began in 2021, competing in the Euroformula Open Championship and achieving notable success with five podium finishes.
Path Through F3 and F2 with VAR
The collaboration between Villagómez and VAR, which began in 2021, saw them stepping up to the Formula 2 championship in 2024. Despite a mixed debut season where he scored points in four occasions, including a best finish of seventh in Melbourne, the partnership demonstrated potential. With John Bennett confirmed as his teammate, Villagómez looks forward to his second season in F2, aiming for further improvement and success.
The pair are scheduled to participate in the pre-season test in Barcelona, offering them an opportunity to adapt to the car and strategize for the season opener.
