Mick Schumacher has become an intriguing candidate to race with Cadillac during the 2026 racing season, currently engaged in discussions with their American racing team to assess all options. Although initially not seen as one of their leading contenders, Schumacher’s negotiations indicate a potential move over to Cadillac.
Although more-experienced drivers, such as Sergio Perez, remain present during negotiations for Formula 1, Schumacher still sees this uncertain market as an opportunity. Sebastian Vettel– a four-time F1 Champion himself– recently stated his belief in Schumacher’s improved skills and maturity by offering another chance in Formula 1.
Vettel Advocates for Schumacher’s Return
Following Vettel’s retirement, rumors of his return swirled, including a potential involvement with Audi, though this never materialized. With Nico Hulkenberg being the only German driver on the F1 grid after Vettel’s departure, Schumacher’s pursuit for a full-time contract gained attention, especially after his participation in Cadillac’s Miami event hinted at possible ties with the team.
Vettel praised Schumacher’s performance and improvement, particularly noting his excellent work at Alpine in the World Endurance Championship. Vettel shared his optimism for Schumacher getting a second chance in the competitive world of F1 with Cadillac.
Exploring Schumacher’s Prospects at Cadillac
Sergio Perez remains one of Cadillac’s primary candidates, thanks to his experience and support. However, due to connections he may have with other teams – leaving Schumacher the door open if his future becomes unclear. Additionally, Colton Herta may benefit from openings at Cadillac through IndyCar competition and his bid for SuperLicense; although his performance may not convince the team.
While Schumacher may not have an immediate chance at victory, his chances could improve depending on market dynamics and any shifts involving Valtteri Bottas or Zhou Guanyu who might move towards him in 2019. As events play out, it will remain worth keeping tabs on Schumacher.
