formula 1 news

McLaren, the current constructors’ champion, gave fans their first look of its 2025 Formula One car– the MCL39– at Silverstone during a recent shakedown session. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri from British team were present.

McLaren unveiled their newest model with a black and orange camouflage livery designed to hide specific technical advancements of their car. Images shared show it still boasting pull rod front suspension setup; however, its gap between upper wishbones seems larger compared to last year’s British Grand Prix model.

Further analysis of the photos reveals a continuation of the perpendicular rear wing corner design, adjustments to the rear bodywork section and suspension mounting area, alongside a new wing mirror configuration. Notably, the sidepod inlet has been extended downwards, and a vertical element near the halo is also visible in the frontal view.

More details about the MCL39’s technological innovations are anticipated to emerge during the collective pre-season testing in Bahrain, scheduled for February 26th. The upcoming 2025 season marks the final year under the current F1 technical regulations.

Motivation and Expectations

Andrea Stella, McLaren F1 team principal, shared her delight upon seeing their MCL39 hit the track for its inaugural run, noting the intense competition on the grid and how difficult it will be to stay ahead. Stella noted “it will be both thrilling and arduous year ahead”, noting their efforts in preparation.

Zak Brown, McLaren Racing CEO, noted the necessity of setting realistic expectations while acknowledging all teams’ off-season efforts. According to Brown: “We believe we have taken further strides forward since championship winning MCL38; however we won’t know where we stand until qualifying in Australia takes place”.
