Why NASCAR Should Continue Racing at Circuit Of The Americas

formula 1 news

As NASCAR concludes its fifth season at Circuit of the Americas, one may ask themselves whether NASCAR races should return. I strongly support its continuation; as an avid fan who has witnessed every race since 2021.

The Argument for Keeping NASCAR at Circuit Of The Americas

As NASCAR expands, old oval tracks return, while others with declining sales fade away, each track strives for inclusion on its schedule. I remain convinced of COTA’s value in NASCAR racing; with my contract up for renewal soon.

Having attended races at COTA with my family, camping out in an RV, and braving the elements—from the downpour of 2021 to witnessing thrilling finishes—I offer my perspective as a seasoned attendee.

Nailing the Course Layout

The original track layout was admittedly too lengthy, making caution laps seem endless. However, this year’s event felt significantly shorter, allowing fans like me to stay engaged without missing any action. The introduction of a new turn at six was a brilliant move, drawing larger crowds than the esses did over the past five years. This change not only added excitement but also improved the overall spectator experience, with notable incidents such as Denny Hamlin and Austin Dillon’s wreck adding to the thrill.

The adjustments to the track layout, coupled with new tire selections, have been universally applauded, even converting skeptics into fans.

COTA: A Premier Racing Destination

COTA stands as one of the top road courses in the United States, if not the premier location. Its modern facilities contrast starkly with some of the older ovals, and its iconic tower and massive flags are a sight to behold. Arguably, if you’re racing in the U.S., COTA should be on your list, whether it’s NASCAR, Formula 1, IndyCar, or IMSA/WEC.

Looking Forward: Enhancements for Future Races

NASCAR could return to COTA with improvements made specifically to enhance fan experience, including expanding food options near main grandstands and upgrading public address system in order to avoid information gaps for attendees, thus keeping them aware of important decisions such as penalty calls.
