New York Islanders forward Anthony Duclair has suffered an unfortunate setback due to a lower-body injury incurred on October 21, 2024 and will miss significant time from play as a result of it. Although hopeful for Duclair’s early return, many believe this event has cast a shadow over their season as it heads towards completion.
Statement from the General Manager
Lou Lamoriello of the Islanders delivered news of Duclair’s injury during a press conference held Monday and mentioned further medical evaluations would take place the next day for more specifics on their severity.
How the Injury Happened
The 29-year-old athlete was injured in the latter stages of a game against the Montreal Canadiens, which the Islanders won 4-3 on the preceding Saturday. A seemingly innocuous play led to Duclair’s fall near Montreal’s goal, causing him evident pain and necessitating assistance to leave the ice. Prior to the incident, Duclair had made his presence felt with a shot on goal during his 15:07 ice time.
Impact of Duclair on the Islanders
Duclair quickly proved his worth upon signing a four-year, $14 million deal with the Islanders this offseason, amassing three points over five games with two goals and an assist. These were strong credentials to start his Islander tenure.
Duclair’s Career Highlights
Duclair had an outstanding 11-year NHL career spanning nine teams over 11 seasons. Across 568 career games he amassed 306 points- 148 goals and 158 assists- making up 306 total points from 568 career contests, emphasizing his importance and making this loss all the more poignant for Islander and their fan base alike.
