Arsenal and Liverpool plan to make an attractive PS50 million offer for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi during January transfer window, although his club could seek closer to PS60 million fee. Real Sociedad are open to discussions for their player with prospective suitors but will likely demand close to PS60 million fee as compensation.
Both clubs had shown an initial interest in Zubimendi during the summer and now look poised to pursue his signature further this winter. Manchester City are in particular considered as potential suitors considering they must replace Rodri with someone, with Zubimendi from Sociedad being an attractive prospect as an option to fill this role for Pep Guardiola’s side.
However, current indications suggest that Arsenal and Liverpool are front runners in the competition for the 25-year-old’s services, potentially leaving Manchester City behind in this race.
Looking Forward: Zubimendi’s Transfer Prospects
Zubimendi was a focal point of transfer speculation throughout the summer, but a move failed to materialize. In response, Arsenal turned to his then-teammate Mikel Merino to strengthen their midfield. Still, with Thomas Partey and Jorginho nearing the end of their contracts, Mikel Arteta’s side may well be on the lookout for further reinforcements in that area.
Liverpool have also made an excellent start to their campaign and may revisit Zubimendi despite failing in previous windows to sign him. Ryan Gravenberch’s improved play under Arne Slot has given them hope that Zubimendi might provide them with an upgrade over current options such as Alexis Mac Allister and Wataru Endo.
Martin Zubimendi may soon become subject to more bids as both Arsenal and Liverpool make moves for his signature as they look to strengthen their squads for the second half of the season.
