Charles Watts recently offered insights suggesting it’s likely Arsenal will sell Fabio Vieira after his loan spell with Porto ends, though there remains the theoretical possibility for Vieira to return home at some point, although according to Watts that seems highly unlikely.
Even though Arsenal elected not to include a buy option with Porto’s loan deal for Vieira, his recent performances with them, including scoring consecutive matches, have led some analysts to predict his eventual resurgence at Arsenal.
However, the emergence of Ethan Nwaneri, an impressive homegrown talent, this season has further cast doubts on Vieira’s future at Arsenal. With the youngster rising through the ranks, a permanent departure for Vieira seems more plausible.
Insider View on Fabio Vieira’s Potential Transfer
Watts made note of Vieira’s increased playback at Porto following an early injury and expressed his wish for him to demonstrate his value as an Arsenal player. Though not considered certain to return, Watts expressed doubt in Vieira reintegrating successfully back into their squad; though his loan agreement omitting any purchase clause suggests Arsenal may consider inviting his return without expecting him back out again as expected by his expectations of transfer out instead.
Watts observed that Mikel Arteta’s decision to loan Vieira out was in part intended to give more playing opportunities for Nwaneri at 17. Given Nwaneri’s prodigious talent at 17, Vieira may find his path back into first-team play at Arsenal after returning difficult. Watts concluded by emphasizing how Arsenal will likely have to absorb financial loss on players purchased for PS34 million after 2022; emphasizing its inevitable nature from his point of view.
