Joshua Zirkzee Caught in Transfer Tug-of-War as PSV and Napoli Show Interest

soccer news

PSV Eindhoven have made headlines recently when reports surfaced of them making an unexpected move to sign Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee as they look for someone to fill Alassane Plea’s absence until 2026 due to injury. According to sources within football agent community, PSV Eindhoven views Zirkzee as their ideal attacker and plans on opening negotiations with Manchester United over potential loan agreements for him.

PSV have made it clear they intend to give Zirkzee regular playing time as their lead striker, in the hopes it may improve his chances of selection to represent Netherlands at 2026 World Cup tournament in Qatar. Last season he appeared 49 times for Red Devils while scoring seven times.

Despite having a contract with Manchester United that extends until 2029, Zirkzee’s future under new manager Ruben Amorim seems uncertain. The recent acquisitions of Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha have seen Zirkzee drop in the pecking order. He also did not feature in the club’s first two matches of the season against Arsenal and Fulham.

Manager Amorim recently expressed his admiration for Zirkzee and suggested they may consider loaning him out so he gets adequate playing time – drawing interest from both PSV and Napoli ahead of their transfer deadlines.

Napoli’s Interest Adds Intrigue to Zirkzee’s Future

Antonio Conte of Napoli reportedly expressed interest in signing Zirkzee to their Serie A squad after Romelu Lukaku suffered an injury, especially following his previous stint with Bologna where Zirkzee demonstrated goal scoring prowess and versatility as an attacker. With both clubs now interested, Zirkzee appears poised for a transfer swat in order to bring both clubs onboard. With only six days left until this window closes.
