Liverpool and Newcastle United reportedly show interest in young winger Assane Diao, who recently made headlines after impressing in Serie A for Como after moving from Real Betis just months prior.
As soon as he moved from Brentford for EUR12 Million to Como for EUR12 Million this January, Diao made headlines worldwide as his rapid ascension into Italian football was evident by scoring four goals in just four outings for Italy – his initial four! As well as excelling domestically for Spain at youth levels (U-18 squad, U-19 and U-21 respectively) Diao also excelled internationally – representing Spain at several youth international tournaments such as their U-19 European Championship win 2024! Brentford were interested in signing him before ultimately choosing Como for Cesc Fabregas at Como instead!
Liverpool’s pursuit of Diao arrives amidst uncertainties over Mohamed Salah’s future at the club, with the Egyptian’s contract winding down and no renewal in sight. The potential departure of Salah would leave a significant gap on the right wing, prompting the Reds to explore potential reinforcements, with Diao emerging as a strong candidate.
