Newcastle and Tottenham Vie for €35m Slovak Defender Alongside European Elite

soccer news

Finding an elite center-back available on the transfer market can be hard, which explains the great interest from 11 clubs to acquire PSG’s brilliant Slovak defender Milan Skriniar – though his price could likely decrease with discussions taking place about his transfer during January 2019. Paris Saint-Germain have indicated they may negotiate his transfer and an estimated EUR35m price tag has been mentioned; although discussions could potentially reduce that figure.

Newcastle’s Interest in Milan Skriniar

Jamaal Lascelles and Fabian Schar remain under question at Newcastle United, leaving Skriniar as one of their prime transfer targets this winter transfer window. Manager Eddie Howe must act swiftly with regards to making these important decisions given that Newcastle have already completed one deal before setting their eyes upon Skriniar fully.

However, snapping up Skriniar will not be straightforward for Howe and Newcastle.

Tottenham Hotspur also seeks to bolster their defence by adding Skriniar to their squad, envisioning him as a pivotal addition to support their current defensive lineup including Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, although their intention to use him more as a rotational option could potentially weaken their bid.

European Powerhouses Also in the Hunt

Skriniar is attracting attention from across Europe with clubs like Napoli, Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Aston Villa, Real Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen, Roma, Al Nassr, and Atletico Madrid all reportedly willing to offer him a starting position. This intense competition puts Tottenham at a disadvantage in the race for his signature.

PSG have put him under high valuation with their valuation at EUR35m but are hopeful the transfer fee could be brought down to around EUR25m through negotiations. From Skriniar’s standpoint, January could be favorable given his limited playing time at PSG; yet given their strong demand he seems reluctant to commit immediately given so many interested in his services.

Skriniar will soon make his decision between Europe’s premier football clubs – many of which could become available. His choice will surely make headlines this time round!
