Newcastle United are reported to be closely monitoring Leicester City’s Wout Faes and Nottingham Forest’s Nikola Milenkovic as potential defensive reinforcements, with Fabian Schar and Dan Burn’s contracts expiring soon requiring new ideas in strengthening their lineup. Both players could provide much-needed options.
Faes and Milenkovic have attracted considerable interest, though to acquire either player would require significant investment. Leicester City are expected to ask for EUR40m for Faes while Nottingham Forest have set their price for Milenkovic who joined them recently from Fiorentina at at least EUR50m.
There is speculation whether Newcastle can manage to bring down these asking prices, but it appears the club has marked these players as priority targets for Eddie Howe’s defensive strategy.
Potential for Newcastle to Secure Faes or Milenkovic
Faes is 26 and already an internationally acclaimed Belgian footballer; as such he may have been considering his options at Leicester this past summer – signalling to Newcastle the possibility that they can propose an offer. Leicester may accept lower offers due to financial concerns. On the other hand, Milenkovic may feel less inclined to transfer given Forest’s recent acquisition; nevertheless this situation remains one worth keeping an eye on with regard to Premier League pressure on clubs to retain top talents.
Newcastle United’s goal to bolster their defense with high-profile signings indicates their desire to stay competitive and establish themselves within the Premier League.
