Tottenham Hotspur Sets Sights on Young Uzbek Talent Abdukodir Khusanov

Tottenham Hotspur are taking an avid interest in signing Abdukodir Khusanov from RC Lens’, targeting him for possible signing in 2025. Scouts have been dispatched to observe this Uzbekistani player throughout this season’s performance and could make an offer by summer 2020 if successful in doing so.

Khusanov made history when he made history last summer when he joined French outfit FC Nantes from Uzbekistan as the inaugural Uzbek player to compete in Ligue 1. Since arriving, Khusanov quickly established himself as an integral component in Will Still’s squad, featuring in every match except those related to an incident against PSG that saw him receive a red card suspension in November.

His impressive outings have not gone unnoticed, drawing attention from several top European clubs including Marseille, PSG, Tottenham, and Newcastle United. Reports suggest that RC Lens has recognized this growing interest and has valued the young talent at between €15m-20m ahead of the upcoming transfer windows, with the possibility of this valuation increasing as the season progresses. With Khusanov under contract until 2027, Lens holds a strong negotiating position.

Tottenham scouts attended a recent Lens and Reims match, signalling its serious interest. To address ongoing defensive challenges at North London club Tottenham is keen on strengthening its backline; particularly after Ange Postecoglou had the chance 18 months earlier to sign Khusanov for just PS100,000. Unfortunately that chance has now passed; could now cost significantly more.

Newcastle United are also in the race, looking to strengthen their defense with an early January transfer move for Lens’ signature; however, Spurs remain alert in case Newcastle attempt an early transfer; nonetheless, Tottenham remain vigilant and stand ready to pounce should Newcastle make their move first – such is Khusanov’s rising stock in European football that its rising value may threaten any such bid by Newcastle or Tottenham for his signature.
