Carlos Alcaraz continues to enjoy remarkable success after defeating Arthur Rinderknech with scores of 7-6, 6-3 and 6-4 in straight-set victories at both Grand Slam tournaments this year – reaching all four quarterfinals while appearing 12 times at one or more Grand Slam tournament quarterfinal matches for his own career – for which Alcaraz earned praise as an impressive performer.
Even amid his notable accomplishments, Alcaraz’s consistency has come into question. Responding to these inquiries during a post-match press conference as he prepared for Jiri Lehecka in the quarterfinals, Alcaraz acknowledged these criticisms by acknowledging his critics by commenting, ‘People may argue about my lack of consistency; at the same time though those stats give me comfort that my performance in great tournaments remains strong.”
Alcaraz continued his critical perspective by emphasizing his high standards. “Obviously, sometimes I am really hard on myself that quarterfinal isn’t good enough or semifinal isn’t enough – but more important than results is whether one plays well – realizing a semifinal or quarterfinal is still pretty impressive if played consistently and good play continues throughout a Grand Slam event; and have talked a lot about needing improvement with consistency or playing better (in matches or otherwise) than usual – that’s probably why so many others have also discussed it,” Alcaraz concluded his statement by recalling past discussions relating to this topic as well.
