Serena Williams announced her retirement from professional tennis following the US Open 2022; yet, she continues to make occasional public appearances to watch some of her former rivals compete. Recently she attended Miami Open, particularly interested in watching Novak Djokovic compete against Lorenzo Musetti during Djokovic’s match-up vs Musetti on Wednesday, March 26. Williams could be found courtside during this match against Lorenzo Musetti as Williams observed proceedings closely from courtside seats during Novak Djokovic vs Lorenzo Musetti fourth round match-up which Djokovic defeated Lorenzo Musetti 8-7 on Wednesday March 26.
Williams wasn’t the only notable spectator present that day. Juan Martin del Potro, one of Djokovic’s closest allies and recently retired tennis player was also present; cameras captured his presence as he was seen sitting beside Andy Murray in Djokovic’s player box. Del Potro had made headlines for his 2009 US Open victory where he defeated both Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer to capture his maiden Grand Slam crown title win.
Serena Williams, a 23-time Major winner, is not often seen at tennis events these days, focusing more on her family and business ventures through her company, Serena Ventures. Her recent public appearance was at the Super Bowl LIX halftime show, where she made a surprise cameo alongside Kendrick Lamar.
Djokovic, on the other hand, sailed through his match against Musetti in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, despite a rain delay. This victory marked a strong performance for Djokovic in the tournament, setting him up for a quarterfinal match against Sebastian Korda on Thursday, March 27.

Having not won a title this season, Djokovic expressed his eagerness to get back to his winning ways, with the Miami Open presenting an opportune moment. He revealed feeling nervous playing in front of distinguished guests like Williams and del Potro, acknowledging their presence as an honor and a pressure to perform well.
Djokovic has not only excelled on the court at Miami but has also set records. At one point he achieved 411 victories on Masters 1000 stage since 1988 (breaking Rafael Nadal’s previous mark by 3).
